Trust your gut when looking for a therapist. As you may have experienced already, therapy is not always effective. Your comfort level with your counselor is one of the most important factors in therapy being a useful tool for healing and personal growth. Finding someone who you find easy to talk to is essential. It all starts with that connection. 

Besides feeling comfortable with one another, having a similar view of the problem, the goals, and the path forward are also important. Not every therapist has the skill to help with every situation. The things I am most skilled with are gender dysphoria, family work with adolescents, and suicidality. Anxiety, profound loneliness, being autistic in a neurotypical world, and body image also come up a lot. If I feel that your situation is outside of my skill set, I will help you find another person.
